In the fall of Autumn, we went underground… under the centre of Adelaide which to our surprise is filled with loud colour, sensational creations, whimsical music and a kneeling bar. Assume prayer position and ask and ye shall receive a drink.
The project was called the tunnels and was a visual and performing arts showcase, featuring South Australia’s young emerging artists. ARTSAKE Productions, working in conjunction with Fascination Street, created a space like no other, with its only limit due to the lack of oxygen available.
The invitation to perform in this musty old tunnel inspired Alexandra and myself to leave the wide open dance studio and create in the dark and limited space of my lounge room. The work was titled Our Armor and the final creation involved a raw egg, porcelain doll-like makeup, a broken table and wild dancing, all housed in an enclosed space. A recipe for disaster maybe but an air of vulnerability was the aim.
